Crystalens

Ever dreamt about turning back time and seeing clearly again WITHOUT GLASSES? Have you imagined reading the paper, looking through a menu, or clearly seeing product labels, without the need for reading glasses?

The accomodative intraocular lens is an artifical lens. It is a transparent plastic disc with a similar shape to a natural lens.

The intraocular lens is designed to reside inside the eye and replaces your own natural lens either because it has been clouded over by a cataract, or has become too inflexible to provide the extra lens power needed for reading. IOL’s are also often an appropriate solution for vision correction if you are not a suitable candidate for LASIK.

Most IOLs are monofocal lenses with only a single range of focused vision usually matched to distance vision. However, other types are available, such as bifocal or multi focal IOLs which provide focused vision at far, as well as reading and intermediate distances, and accommodative IOLs which provide the patient with limited visual accommodation, or variable focusing power.

Insertion of an intraocular lens for the treatment of cataracts is the most commonly performed, as well as safest, surgical procedure in the United States. Therefore, intraocular lens insertion, whether it is done for cataracts, for correcting distance vision, or for restoring reading vision, has a very long and well known safety record. The procedure can be done with just numbing eyedrops either with or without sedation as the patient desires. In fact, Dr Monnett was the first to bring the current No-Needle, No-Stitch, No-Patch technique to the Space and Treasure Coasts back in the Early 90', eliminating several potentially dangerous, and even blinding complications (not to mention discomfort) of numbing unjections around the eye.

Generally speaking, candidates for an accommodating IOL such as Crystalens include people who have both cataracts and hyperopia (farsightedness, which causes near and distance vision problems), people who had good vision prior to developing presbyopia (which is the gradual hardening and loss of flexibility of the human lens with aging that creates the need for reading glasses for near vision), people that are forced to have cataract surgery at an early age and would otherwise require reading glasses the rest of their lives, and moreover, nearly anyone over 40 that cannot see clealy at either distance, near, or both without glasses or contacts.

At this time, Crystalens is the only presbyopia-correcting IOL available in the United States that corrects vision through the method of accommodation, i.e. varying power of focus.

We have exciting news! Did you know that since May 9, 2005, Medicare has agreed to allow its beneficiaries to privately purchase the crystalens procedure? That means that patients who select crystalens will receive the standard Medicare reimbursement for cataract surgery, and can now pay privately for the presbyopic portion of the treatment!

We offer a number of finance options and payment plans to make your IOL affordable. It is easy to apply here online before you even schedule an appointment.
